Crowns and Bridges
Should you have a tooth that is discoloured, badly shaped, weak or broken, you may need a crown to cover and restore it to its normal shape and size and it looks like a natural tooth. Dr. Gallucci also uses a crown to cover a dental implant, a large filling or to attach a bridge.
If you are missing one or more teeth, you will notice a difference in chewing and speaking, in addition to the less-than-ideal appearance. Dr. Gallucci can correct this with a bridge that helps maintain the shape of your face, as well as alleviating the stress in your bite with artificial replacement teeth. The material can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain or a combination. Depending on the support of surrounding teeth, Dr. Gallucci can recommend different types of bridges. A bridge can be bonded onto other teeth, this type of bridge is sometimes called a fixed bridge which is considered permanent. You could be a candidate for a removable denture, which you can take out and clean yourself. Finally, if Dr. Gallucci recommends an implant bridge, artificial teeth will be attached directly to the jaw or under the gum tissue.
If you've lost all of your natural teeth, whether from periodontal disease, tooth decay or injury, a viable option is a complete denture that allows you to appear and function in a normal manner. An immediate complete denture is custom made and placed in the patient's mouth after the remaining teeth are removed. This denture can be worn while tissues are healing which may take several months. Typically, within six months, this denture will require relining or be completely remade as gums will shrink while healing.
If you have healthy teeth left, removable partial dentures should be considered. A partial denture consists of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-coloured plastic bases, which are connected by metal framework. Removable partial dentures attach to your natural teeth with metal clasps or devices called precision attachments which are nearly invisible. Crowns on your natural teeth that will be used for support may improve the fit of a removable partial denture and they are usually required with attachments.
Fillings and Restorations
For more natural looking teeth with the appearance of no previous cavities, tooth coloured fillings will give you the look of 100% healthy teeth. Today's composite resins are tooth-coloured, plastic materials (made of glass and resin) used both as fillings and to repair tooth defects. These tooth-coloured materials are difficult to distinguish from natural teeth. Composites are often used on the front teeth where a natural appearance is important. They can be used on the back teeth as well depending on the location and extent of the tooth decay and they are more costly than traditional amalgam fillings. Ask Dr. Gallucci if tooth coloured fillings match your needs.

The most precious gift we can give our children is good health. In the dental profession, we pride ourselves on our stand for the prevention of dental disease. Sealants are, without a doubt, the finest, preventive service that we can provide our patients. In this process, the grooves in the teeth are sealed with a thin but hard plastic resin coating that effectively eliminates the potential for tooth decay. With no pain, no shots, no drilling, sealants are radically improving the health of our children and adult patients. That's great!
